  • Communicate through the platform — Keep conversations within LendLocally so there's a record if any issues arise.
  • Check reviews — Read reviews and ratings before lending to or borrowing from someone new.
  • Trust your instincts — If something feels off, you can always decline a request. No explanation needed.

For Item Owners

  • Take photos — Document your item's condition before each loan with clear photos.
  • Set a security deposit — For valuable items, require a deposit to protect against damage.
  • Require insurance — For expensive equipment, you can require the borrower to have insurance.
  • Provide clear instructions — Include usage instructions and safety warnings with your listing.
  • Set loan limits — Control minimum and maximum loan durations that work for you.

For Borrowers

  • Inspect items at pickup — Check the condition and note any existing damage before taking the item.
  • Follow usage instructions — Read and follow any safety or usage guidelines provided by the owner.
  • Return on time — Respect the agreed return date. If you need an extension, ask early.
  • Report damage immediately — Accidents happen. Contact the owner right away if something breaks.
  • Leave honest reviews — Help the community by sharing your experience.

If Something Goes Wrong

We hope every sharing experience is positive, but if issues arise:

  1. Try to resolve it directly — Most issues can be worked out between users.
  2. Contact us — If you can't resolve it, reach out to our team. We'll help mediate.
  3. Report unsafe behavior — If you encounter harassment, fraud, or unsafe behavior, report it immediately.
