Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about sharing and borrowing on LendLocally.
Getting Started
LendLocally connects neighbors who want to share items. You can browse items available near you, request to borrow them, and arrange pickup with the owner. It's like a library, but for everything!
Creating an account and browsing is completely free. Some owners share their items for free, while others charge a small rental fee. Fees are always shown before you request an item.
Click "Share an Item" in the navigation menu. Add a title, description, photos, and set your availability and pricing. Your item will be visible to nearby community members.
Safety & Trust
Borrowers are responsible for items while in their possession. Owners can require a security deposit and/or insurance for high-value items. We also have a review system so you can see a borrower's track record before lending.
All users have verified email addresses. Our review system lets you see ratings and feedback from previous transactions. You can also communicate with the other person before agreeing to a loan.
Items that are illegal, dangerous without proper licensing (like firearms), or that could pose a health risk are not allowed. See our Community Guidelines for the full list.
Borrowing
Find an item you need, click "Request to Borrow," and choose your dates. The owner will review your request and approve or suggest alternative dates. Once approved, arrange a convenient pickup time.
Contact the owner through the platform to request an extension. Extensions are at the owner's discretion and may involve additional fees.
Sharing
Yes! You can set hourly, daily, or weekly rates. You can also offer items for free. Many community members appreciate the option to share freely, but reasonable fees help cover wear and tear.
Absolutely. When listing an item, you can set a security deposit amount. This protects you in case of damage or late returns. The deposit is returned when the item comes back in good condition.
